Is your PS3 Model CECHE01 ? If so then it will play limited PS2 titles and the update will not affect the backwards compatibility !

The best one that puts it into terms is the character rendering. Ps1 had 300 pixels for a character, ps2 was 1500, ps3 15,000, ps4 is 30,000 and looks like a movie but the old man looks like jimmy savel!!!
Also lots more can happen on screen, more objects can move and explode and stuff, better animations.
1 demo had a car and the seat had actual fibers and light that reacts like real life

already Spoken to J.B.HIFI, EB, and they all Confirm PLAYSTATION 4 comes out Mid 2014, AS much as I'm Excited about it coming out, I also Learned on the Internet that PLAYSTATION 4, there are no Disks at all, its Completely on Line Only, and if you don't HAVE Internet, then don't buy the PS4 which is a Shame for Sony, because when the New XBOX 720 comes out, they will still have Disks Apparentl, So more People will come over to XBOX. IF I OWNED SONY, I WOULD SCRAP PLAYSTATION 4, coming out and Release a New PLAYSTATION 3 with 1000 GB, and another with 700 GB, that way Game disks don't get Phased Out., and you can still go on Line. EVERYONE WINS, OFFLINE AND ONLINE. I DO APPOLOGISE FOR RAMBLING ON, MY QUESTION IS WILL PS4 BE ONLINE ONLY????. THANKYOU.

omar,, sony is doing a playstation THE FUTURE event on the 20th febuary and there is very big rumours going about that the ps4 will be revealed on that day,,
1-- the ps4 WILL still be able to play games on disc's due to it will have a a 3d blu-ray player and NOT everyone has fast broadband connection so if its download only some people will have to wait days maybe weeks to download ps4 games and thats NOT going to happen,,
2- thank god you didnt own sony,due to you will going backwards with the ps3 due to i have already got a 1000gb or 1TB hard drive installed into my ps3 over 9 months ago,,
so the the people at jb hifi confirm that the ps4 will be released mid 2014, actually if the reports are true the ps4 will be release in japan and american in late 2013, hence the reason why sony is doing a a febuary event to get ready for it to be released for later this year,, if sony launched the ps3 at the E3 show it wont give them enough time for the october/november release,,
